The Hmong Living Culture Museum is a youth-initiated, field-based online cultural platform with a long-term focus on Miao communities along the Qingshui River in Qiandongnan, Guizhou.
Since our first visit in 2022, we have been deeply drawn to the “living culture” of this place. It is not heritage held still behind glass, but a way of life that people continue to use, tell, and practice—and one that keeps taking on new meanings as times change. At times, we begin with an object or a traditional song. At others, we record the field stories of a year: a football match, a shared meal, or a reunion. We make films, design, write poetry, and build a reading room together. We also give unanswered questions the time of longer study, research, and creation.
This is not a complete account of Miao culture, but a youth field archive that continues to grow. Through careful observation, genuine participation, and long-term collaboration, we hope to document a cultural world still unfolding—and create an entry point for more people to approach it.
